Lockdown lifted after bullet casing found at high school in Delaware County

A lockdown has been lifted at Marple Newtown Senior High School in Newtown Square, Pa.

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. (WPVI) -- A lockdown ordered at a high school in Delaware County Friday morning has been lifted.

Newtown Police say the lockdown at Marple Newtown Senior High School in Newtown Square was ordered as a precaution after an empty 9mm bullet casing was found in a locker room.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.

There was no immediate word of any arrests.

According to the Marple Newtown School District, parents were notified at 9:30 a.m. Friday that the high school was "in a working lockdown."

The following additional information was released in a statement from the district:

Something suspicious was found in the building during first period and the administration is working with the police to investigate the matter. Please do not contact the school at this time as the staff will be focused on the situation at hand. During a lockdown, no one is permitted to enter or leave the building. We feel the students are safe at this time. We will send you an update as soon as the lockdown is lifted.

The lockdown was lifted by 11:22 a.m. Friday after police and school officials determined there was no threat to students or staff.
