Man accused of sex assault arrested in Wilmington

A man accused of sexual assault is wanted in Wilmington, Delaware.

WILMINGTON (WPVI) -- Police have arrested a man accused of a sexual assault in Wilmington, Delaware.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday near the Brandywine River on the 800 block of South Park Drive.

Authorities say 31-year-old Dequan Rodriguez was positively identified after being spotted in the area of 14th and King streets.

Rodriguez was given his Miranda Rights, and according to police, he provided a full confession.

The victim told police that Rodriguez approached her, displayed a weapon and forced her into a secluded area.

He was booked on two counts of rape, robbery, and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

Rodriguez is awaiting arraignment.

As a safety precaution, the Wilmington Police advise all residents who utilize the public parks to travel in pairs if possible.

They also say be aware of your surroundings at all times.
