Police say a suspect is in custody after a shooting in West Philadelphia that critically wounded a 39-year-old man late Friday night.

Police say a suspect is in custody after a shooting in West Philadelphia that critically wounded a 34-year-old man late Friday night.

The shooting occurred around 11:00 p.m. on the unit block of Edgewood Street.

The victim was struck eight to nine times in the torso and legs.

He was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for treatment.

Police say the victim's family knew the gunman.

Officers tracked down the 21-year-old alleged shooter driving an SUV at 61st and Market Streets.

The suspect was taken into custody and detectives are talking to him.

So far, there is no official word on charges or a motive.
