Police ID man killed after breaking into ex-girlfriend's home in West Philadelphia

WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police say a man broke into his ex-girlfriend's West Philadelphia home, and somehow he was shot and killed.

That man has been identified as 33-year-old Asa Talley, the ex-boyfriend of the woman who lived in the home.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday on the 800 block of Markoe Street.

The woman's two young boys, and her new boyfriend were also inside the home.

Talley is the father of those two boys.

Police say the woman and the new boyfriend heard Talley trying to break-in.

They managed to push Talley back from entering a first floor window. But, moments later he is able to enter through a second floor window.

He enters into a front bedroom where his ex-girlfriend, and her new boyfriend are.

He starts fighting with his ex, and then he fights with the new boyfriend.

Police say at some point, a gun is pulled, and a shot is fired inside the house.

Police say the new boyfriend allegedly pulled the gun, and fired the shot.

Officers arrived to find Talley shot in the chest.

He was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he later died.

The new boyfriend fled the scene after the shooting.

Police say he is wanted for questioning.

"He knows that we know who he is, and it will be in his best interest to come into homicide unit to tell his side of the story. We will send all the information to the District Attorney's office. And maybe he'll get arrested, and maybe he won't. But he needs to tell his side of the story or it looks bad for him," said Captain James Clark of the Philadelphia Homicide Division.

Police also spoke with Tally's two young sons, and other witnesses.

The incident remains under investigation.
