Police say the gunman fired 4 shots into the front door, striking the victim on the other side. He did not survive.

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A 34-year-old man is dead after shots were fired through the front door of a home in North Philadelphia.

Police say it happened at 1:15 a.m. Thursday.

A suspect knocked on the front door of the home, in the 2300 block of North Cleveland Street, then tried to force his way in.

The victim was on the other side, police say, trying to keep the door closed.

The suspect then pulled out a handgun and fired 4 times into the door, striking the victim.

He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Witnesses said the suspect, who was wearing a multi-colored striped shirt, fled on foot down Cleveland Street.

A police investigation is underway.
