LINDENWOLD, N.J. (WPVI) -- Authorities in Lindenwold, New Jersey say a naked man punched a police officer in the face and then tried to steal his vehicle on Tuesday.
It was 10:22 p.m. when the officer was interviewing two suspicious people in front of the 1100 Building of Arborwood Condos, located at 511 East Gibbsboro Road.
That's when a naked man, who was not a part of the investigation, allegedly ran up to the officer and punched him in the face.
The naked man was sweating profusely and continued to attack, police say, making the officer's attempt to arrest him extremely difficult.
At one point, the naked man broke free from the officer, jumped into the officer's patrol vehicle in an attempt to steal it.
Another officer arrived on the scene and they managed to remove the naked man from the police vehicle, but the suspect broke free again and fled the scene.
He was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit, and with the assistance of additional officers he was secured in handcuffs.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Byron Neville of Lindenwold, was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treated for minor injuries. He was believed to be under the influence of marijuana laced with PCP.
Neville is now facing a number of charges, including Carjacking and Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. He was later committed to Camden County Jail in default of $200,000 bail.
The officer that was punched received minor injuries as a result of the assault and did not require medical attention.
