Newark man charged with indecent exposure

NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- A Newark man has been arrested on indecent exposure charges.

21-year-old James Cotton of the 400 block of Sheldon Drive was charged with indecent exposure in the second degree, unlawful imprisonment in the second degree and offensive touching.

The incident took place around 9:30 p.m. Monday at the Drummond Hill Apartments on the 400 block of Sheldon Drive.

According to police, a 31-year-old woman was leaving the laundry room when she was grabbed by an unknown suspect.

The victim then reported the suspect pushed her into a wall in the stairwell refusing to allow her to flee.

Police say the suspect then exposed himself.

The victim was able to escape the stairwell and make her way back to her apartment.

Authorities located the suspect, later identified as Cotton, running from a wooded area near the complex.

He was positively identified by the victim and taken into custody.

Cotton was arraigned and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $3000 cash bail and issued a no contact order.
