Officer dragged by hit-and-run driver in West Philadelphia

WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- An officer is on the mend after being dragged by a hit-and-run driver in West Philadelphia.

It happened around 2:40 a.m. Saturday when two Philadelphia police officers were on patrol at 62nd and Market streets.

The officers say a driver crashed a Ford Explorer into a parked Chevrolet Malibu at that intersection.

Officer Hollis then approached the passenger side window of the striking vehicle, and asked the person to roll down the window.

And because traffic was getting heavy, Officer Hollis decided to jump onto the side of the SUV to avoid being hit.

However, that's when the driver took off, dragging the officer about four blocks before he could let go.

Officer Hollis tried to get the driver to stop, but he had to jump off the vehicle.

The injured officer was treated for scrapes and bruises to his hands, legs and feet at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

He is expected to be OK.

Authorities found the Ford Explorer involved in the incident, but they are still looking for the driver who was behind the wheel.
