Philadelphia Streets Commissioner charged with simple assault

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Philadelphia official is on leave after being arrested in an alleged assault last year.

Forty-five-year-old Donald Carlton, the city's streets commissioner, is charged with simple assault and reckless endangering.

The district attorney's office said a 50-year-old man was punched several times in the face and body at a party Dec. 6 and suffered fractured ribs and a bruised eye.

Carlton was released after posting $2,500 bail and is scheduled to appear in court June 7.

A city spokeswoman said Carlton, who has been with the streets department for more than two decades, was on a leave of absence until further notice.

Court documents don't list an attorney who could respond to the charges and a listed number for Carlton couldn't be found Monday.
