Former treasurer stole $190K from Delaware fire company, police say

MILLVILLE, Del. (WPVI) -- A Delaware man has been charged with stealing more the $190,000 from a volunteer fire company.

36-year-old Justin Oakley of Dagsboro turned himself in to Delaware State Police on Tuesday.

Police say a state audit found Oakley posted more than $190,000 in personal transactions using fire department funds while serving as treasurer for the Millville Volunteer Fire Department in Millville, Delaware.

The alleged thefts occurred between January 1, 2012 and June 30, 2015.

Police learned of the thefts after they say Oakley admitted to volunteer officials that he had been using the department's money for personal transactions.

Oakley has been charged with Theft over $100,000 and 100 counts of Falsifying Business Records.

He was arraigned and released after posting $12,500 bail.
