Police: Luring report in Beverly, NJ a misunderstanding
BEVERLY, N.J. (WPVI) -- Public Safety Director, Rich Wolbert in Beverly, New Jersey says it appears the attempted luring reported in the city was a misunderstanding.
Police issued a description of the alleged suspect driving a white, four-door SUV, after the incident happened around 4:15 p.m. Monday.
Wolbert says, the man in the white SUV described by the child involved came to police headquarters Tuesday morning after seeing the alert on Action News.
He told police he was working in the area and had his son's Halloween candy in the car and wanted to get rid of it.
The man says, he then asked a 7-year-old boy playing outside on Memorial Avenue if he wanted the candy.
He says he did not realize at the time, it would appear as if he were trying to lure the child into his car.
Police say the man's vehicle and appearance matched the description in the alert.
Investigators are doing additional interviews to confirm the information and will issue an updated press release later today.
