Philadelphia police say a 45-year-old man was shot by his 78-year-old mother inside a home in Germantown but the son is the one facing charges.

GERMANTOWN (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police say a 45-year-old man was shot by his 78-year-old mother inside a home in Germantown but the son is the one facing charges.

It happened around 9:00 p.m. Friday in the 5700 block of McMahon Avenue.

The mother told police her 45-year-old son, came inside her home and appeared drunk. She barricaded herself inside her second floor bedroom.

According to police, the woman's son then barged into the bedroom and threatened her with a gun.

The mother told police, she then picked up a handgun on her bed and shot him several times. The son shot back, but missed.

The woman was able to lock herself in her room until police arrived.

Her son was taken to Einstein Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He is listed in stable condition.

The mother was unhurt but was taken into custody.

The son will be charged with aggravated assault and related charges.

Police have not released the names of those involved.
