MAYFAIR (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are investigating after two officers shot a man who they say refused to drop his rifle in Mayfair.

It happened around 5:47 p.m. Wednesday on the 6300 block of Crafton Street.

Officers were called to the home to investigate a domestic incident.

When they arrived, police say they found a man, later identified as 55-year-old Timothy McShane, at the front door with a rifle.

Both officers shot at McShane when he refused to put it down. He was hit in the arm.

The suspect was taken to Aria-Torresdale Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Police say McShane's wife, a 56-year-old female, fled to a neighbor's house prior to the arrival of officers.

She suffered contusions to her left eye, and cuts to her left hand, police say, as a result of being assaulted by her husband.

Timothy McShane's weapon was recovered, and determined to be an empty pellet rifle.

He is facing multiple charges including aggravated assault, simple assault and related offenses.

The officers were not injured during the incident.
