Poverty Summit announced for Philadelphia
Local church leaders and others come together to change the growing poverty problem in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Local church leaders and others are coming together to make change to the growing poverty problem in Philadelphia.

Members with the Opportunities Industrialization Center, or OIC of America, announced "The Poverty Summit" on Monday.

OIC officials say 1 in 2 Philadelphians live near or at the poverty level and 40 percent of children in the city go to bed hungry every night.

The president and CEO of OIC says the time for change is now.

There will be two public hearings for people to share their stories of poverty.

The summit will then be held on May 19th at the Community College of Philadelphia.
