Reaction to fatal shooting of Ofc. Robert Wilson III

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- There has been an outpouring of condolences from people across the city after the fatal shooting of Philadelphia Officer Robert Wilson III.

The 22nd district is adorned with bunting and the flag is at half-staff.

They're images no officer wants to see because it means another one of their own is gone.

Like so many officers, Officer Wilson III gave his life protecting others.

He was shot multiple times - including a wound to his head - on Thursday afternoon during a robbery attempt at a GameStop in North Philadelphia.

"I've seen a lot of heroic actions on the part of police officers over the years - very proud to be part of this profession. I haven't seen any that rose above what I saw on that video," said Commissioner Charles Ramsey.

A steady stream of people visited the 22nd district on Friday bringing food and flowers - paying respect to 30-year-old father of two boys.

"We just wanted to reach out and offer our condolences and say we appreciate their services," said Skye Jansen, Brewerytown.

"We care so much and are deeply saddened about what happened Officer Wilson," said Rev. Selia Darlene Bervine, North Philadelphia.

Officer Wilson is the second officer from the 22nd district killed since the 2012 murder of Officer Moses Walker Jr.

There's a sidewalk plaque for Officer Walker in front of the district.

I's a reminder of the job's dangers and sadly now another plaque will likely be added.

"He was one of our best no question about it. We are all in shock and we are going suffer this loss for a very, very long time," said Commissioner Ramsey.
