Security officer struck by bullet during Lincoln University homecoming weekend

A security officer was shot while on duty during homecoming weekend at Lincoln University in Chester County, school officials say.

LOWER OXFORD TWP, Pa. (WPVI) -- A security officer was shot while on duty during homecoming weekend at Lincoln University in Chester County, school officials say.

It happened shortly after 3:30 a.m. Sunday at the main campus in Lower Oxford Township.

University officials say shots were fired and a stray bullet struck a van carrying officers with Imperial Security.

A female officer was hit by the bullet. She was taken to Christiana Hospital in Delaware where she will undergo surgery to have the bullet removed.

According to a statement released by the university, Imperial Security is "a private firm hired by Lincoln University for the homecoming festivities that occurred over the weekend."

Pennsylvania State Police are on campus assisting the Lincoln University Police with their investigation.

Sources tell Action News there were a number of skirmishes at a concert on campus.

Officials say Lincoln University students are safe and were not involved in the incident.
