SEPTA officer cited for body camera mistake

CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- A SEPTA police officer has been disciplined for his actions involving a man he arrested at the Frankford Transportation Center.

It happened on June 4, and it was caught on camera.

The officer, Matthew Sinkiewicz, had physical contact with a man he arrested for disorderly conduct.

Officer Sinkiewicz was found at fault for the way he handled the man, and also because he violated the department's body camera rules.

"It's very important that the body cameras capture what the officer is seeing," said SEPTA Police Chief Thomas Nestel.

Officer Sinkiewicz didn't turn his camera on until after he put handcuffs on the suspect.

The man in question has had several run-ins with transit police. He was cited for the incident on June 4.

Officer Sinkiewicz was disciplined, but not terminated.
