MIDDLETOWN TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- New Jersey State Police Sgt. Sean Boag made an unexpected delivery Friday on his way home in Middletown Township, New Jersey.

At 3:58 p.m., Sgt. Boag responded to a report of a woman going into labor on the side of the Garden State Parkway at milepost 110.

Police said the expecting Lakewood couple were en route to a hospital in New Brunswick when the baby decided she would not wait any longer.

The expecting father pulled his Toyota Camry on the side of northbound express lanes and called 911 for assistance, police said.

With Sgt. Boag's assistance, police said, the expecting mother delivered a healthy baby girl at 4:02 p.m.

Mom and baby were transported to Riverview Medical Center. They are reportedly doing well.
