HUNTING PARK (WPVI) -- A teenage boy was struck and killed in Philadelphia's Hunting Park section on Sunday.

Family members have identified the victim as 17-year-old Adelso 'Adeiry' Matos.

The accident happened around 7:15 p.m. Sunday in near 7th and Cayuga streets.

Friends tell Action News that Adelso was with them at a nearby park but left to go home.

"He probably saw us when he was coming. When he turned that's when it happened and we came and saw him laying on the ground" said Omar Khalil, friend.

The teen was on his bike when the driver struck him.

Witness Tony Diaz told us through a translator that the driver ran a stop sign and the teen flew into the air before hitting the ground.

"He was moving - not a lot," said Louis Martes.

Martes is licensed to perform CPR and rushed to help.

"He was breathing a little bit and then he was just passing out; his eyes rolled," said Martes, who says he then started CPR. "And I tried to keep going to keep his heart pumping so his blood could circulate,"

Police say the 28-year-old driver of the car did not flee. While he is described as a suspected drunk driver, police have not arrested him pending the outcome of toxicology testing.

According to his family the the Adelso was going to be a senior at Olney High School in the fall.

In just a few weeks he was planning to visit his parents and extended family in the Dominican Republic.
