UPPER MILFORD, Pa. (WPVI) -- Action News has learned the name of the man struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Tuesday in Upper Milford, Pa.

48-year-old Alan Ruth, who lived about half a mile from the crash scene, was struck while riding a motorized bicycle by a driver who kept going.

It happened around 1 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Saint Peters Road and Sweetwood Drive.

Action News is told authorities are looking for a red, late-model Jeep Cherokee in connection with the incident.

The vehicle is believed to have front-end damage with a broken or missing front light.

Investigators say they have little doubt that the driver realized what happened.

"Witnesses at the scene advised us that two individuals got out of the vehicle, proceeded to get out of the vehicle, and the vehicle fled north on Macungie Mountain Road toward towards the borough of Macungie," said Lt. John Nederostek of the Pennsylvania State Police

Terry Yons' husband is the victim's cousin. She says the person responsible needs to do the right thing.

"Whoever did this, we really need them to come forward and just admit they did it," said Yons. "Our family needs closure for this part. Right now (the victim's) dad is pretty sick. So the best thing they can do is come forward and just say, 'I did it,' and be done with it."

Yons explained Ruth's father is currently undergoing treatment for cancer.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville barracks at 610-395-1438.
