Woman rescued from Deptford fire
A woman was rescued from a fire in Deptford, NJ.

DEPTFORD TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- Police officers and firefighters in Gloucester County battled through smoke and flames to reach an elderly woman trapped inside a home.

It happened around 3 a.m. Sunday on the unit block of Hayes Avenue in Deptford Township.

Crews arriving to the scene were told that an 81-year-old woman was still in the basement in a hospital bed.

The officers and firefighters were able to reach the woman and carry her out.

She was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. Her condition has not been released.

The woman's son who was home at the time was able to escape without injury.

It is not clear what caused the fire or if the home had working smoke detectors.
