SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A woman remains hospitalized after police say she was stabbed at an employment agency in South Philadelphia.

It happened at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Staffing Services in in the 2300 block of South Broad Street.

Caroline Franklin, the owner of the agency, was working inside when a man came in, asked about a job, then stabbed her multiple times, fleeing with her purse.

Franklin was able to walk across Broad Street to Methodist Hospital and from there she was transported to Jefferson Hospital.

On Friday afternoon, after undergoing surgery, Franklin was listed in stable but critical condition.

Frank Cinquino, the owner of an accounting firm situated below the employment office, says he did not hear an altercation.

"I was kind of shocked because over the past four years, there has been absolutely nothing. I haven't even heard an argument upstairs," said Cinquino.

Charles Lyons has found temporary work with Trinity Staffing Services since last year.

"She was fair, she was polite - I can't say nothing bad about her," said Lyons.

He says many who come to the agency are ex-offenders from halfway houses who are looking for jobs.

Police have not said if the attack was random, or if the assailant knew Franklin.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, possibly in his 30s, with a cornrow hairstyle and a goatee.

He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt.
