Burglar targets supermarket in Nicetown

Philadelphia police are looking for a burglar who targeted a supermarket in the city's Nicetown section.

NICETOWN (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are looking for a suspect who burglarized a supermarket in the city's Nicetown section early Sunday morning.



It happened at R+L Supermarket on the 4200 block of Germantown Avenue.



Police say the burglar broke into the supermarket around 3:30 a.m. by climbing a ladder from a second floor room.



The thief was then caught on surveillance video climbing through the supermarket ceiling.

Once inside the suspect used a long screwdriver to pry open the cash register drawer.



He stole an unknown amount of cash before fleeing the scene.



Police describe the suspect as a black male with a medium build. He was wearing a red sweatshirt, white scarf covering his head, jeans and sneakers.
