New Jersey teacher's aide charged with distributing child porn via Snapchat
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. (WPVI) -- A teacher's aide and diving coach in New Jersey has been charged with distributing child porn and pictures of child abuse through Snapchat.
Mark Balesteri Jr., 29, was employed by Egg Harbor Township High School.
The school is Balesteri's alma mater, according to a profile from his time own the Rowan University diving team. He was a star athlete in college and high school.
Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said a tip led to a months-long investigation.
On Valentine's Day, they served a search warrant and took Balesteri into custody without incident.
Investigators will now comb through devices confiscated in Thursday's search and computers he may have used at the school.
If more images are found it could result in even more charges. So far, investigators do not have evidence any students were in the images they have reviewed.
"We need to determine if there are images are people he had direct contact with - students, family members. They could be unrelated to him altogether. That's part of the investigation," said Tyner.
Balesteri is expected to appear before a judge on Wednesday.
