Police say a Volkswagen was speeding when the vehicle struck and killed a 50-year-old woman and injured three others in North Philadelphia.

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police say a driver was speeding when a car struck and killed a 50-year-old woman on a North Philadelphia sidewalk.



The crash happened after 4:30 a.m. Saturday on the 3200 block of North Broad Street.



According to police, a white Buick was traveling north when the driver lost control. The vehicle then jumped the curb and ended up on the southbound side.



The car then crashed into a woman on the sidewalk before hitting a PNC Bank, eventually stopping by a light pole.



Police say the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.



The 28-year-old male driver was sitting outside the car when police arrived.



There were two men, ages 25 and 24, trapped inside who had to be rescued from the car.



The driver and passengers were taken to Temple University Hospital for treatment.



They are all listed in stable condition.
