Philadelphia Orchestra, musicians reach agreement, end strike
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia Orchestra Association says a tentative agreement has been reach with musicians of The Philadelphia Orchestra, ending a three-day strike on Sunday.
The Philadelphia Orchestra went on strike Friday night, canceling an opening night performance about 1,000 people had come to hear.
A statement was released Sunday afternoon that reads in part:
At a meeting earlier today, the executive and human resources committees of the board of directors of The Philadelphia Orchestra voted unanimously to recommend the new contract to the full board that will be voted on at a special meeting of the Board of Directors on Tuesday, October 4.
Separately, the musicians met this afternoon and voted to ratify the agreement.
Meanwhile, the orchestra will perform Audience Appreciation Day concerts throughout the city on Tuesday, Oct. 4.
Scheduled performances will resume with the Simon Rattle Concert on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. at Verizon Hall at The Kimmel Center.
