UPPER DARBY, Pa. (WPVI) -- A woman who escaped from police last month in Upper Darby is back in custody after she was involved in a pursuit and crash on Thursday in Philadelphia.
Carolyn Quiah, 27, escaped from a constable at the Secane District Court back on September 13.
Surveillance video shows the moment the car driven by Quiah veered out of control and flipped over.
It happened here at 56th and Whitby in Southwest Philadelphia just after 12:30 p.m.
People who live nearby heard the crash and thought it might be gunfire it was so explosive.
"When I heard it, it was like a big smash. So when I heard the big smash and like the glass hit the windows, but I didn't know so my first thing was like get on the floor," said Stevie Williams.
"We heard a loud boom and a lot of glass just went up in the air," said Yvette Chandler. "It was really something."
It all started around noon in Center City near the area of 15th and JFK. U.S. Marshals had been looking for Quiah since she escaped.
"They see her in this Impala. She stops at a red light, they get out of their vehicles. They approach the vehicle and attempt to bring her into custody. She hits the gas she strikes one of the US Marshals in the ankle," said Lt. John Walker of the Philadelphia Police Department.
She took off again and was next spotted in Southwest Philadelphia traveling at a high speed. Police pursued her to 56th and Whitby where she crashed into a moving vehicle and several parked cars before her vehicle flipped over.
She was transported to Penn Presbyterian for treatment along with the driver of the other car she hit.
At the time of her escape in Delaware County, Quiah was charged with assault. She now faces many more charges including assault on the federal marshal.
Police add that she's been getting around in cars rented with other people's identification. They'll be looking into how she accomplished that as well.
She suffered only bumps and bruises. The drivers of the other cars she struck suffered only minor injuries.
