UPPER CHICHESTER TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- An iconic Delaware County restaurant is getting ready to close its doors for good.

John's Doggie Shop will serve its final hot dog on July 29th.

The shop's last remaining location in Upper Chichester Townshp is shutting down because the land is needed to expand the Conchester Highway.

The hot dog shop has been in the same family for nearly 70 years.

As they prepare to close they're also thanking their loyal customers.

"Delaware County, we have the best customers anybody could ever ask for. Faithful following, loyal people, half of them have turned into friends. Come to my house for all the holidays and barbecues. It's cool having a mom and pop place because you personally know everybody," owner George Eleutheriou said.

While the owners haven't ruled out a new location, they say they will be taking some time off.

In the meantime, the recipe for their legendary chili sauce will remain a secret.
