Roseate spoonbill spotted in New Jersey
Roseate spoonbill spotted in New Jersey. Jim Gardner reports during Action News at 6 p.m. on September 13, 2017.

There's a surprising sight on a pond in Cumberland County, New Jersey these days.

It's a pink bird called a Roseate Spoonbill and it's usually found in Texas and Florida.

Experts think it fled here, away from the recent hurricanes in the south.

The last sighting of the Roseate Spoonbill in New Jersey was back in 2009.

If you're wondering why it's called that: take a closer look.

Its bill is shaped like a long wooden spoon.
