Shelter Me: GetYourPet.com
Shelter Me: GetYourPet.com. David Murphy reports during Action News at 9 a.m. on November 11, 2017.

There's a new, progressive way to adopt your next pet.

GetYourPet.com was launched earlier this year. The goal of the website is to save as many pets from the shelters as possible.

Since June they have re-homed almost 500 pets. GetYourPet.com streamlines the entire adoption process while making it user friendly.

"If you're thinking about adopting, you would simply go to GetYourPet.com and then you can pursue pets available in your area," says GetYourPet.com Founder, Angela Marcus.

You can search for different characteristics, like breed and gender, to discover the pet that best suits your needs. Then, you can connect with the guardian.

"You can send a message directly to that pet's owner, or what we call guardian, you communicate back and forth, then you can schedule a meet up," Marcus says.

This way, you can learn a lot more details about your potential pet's personality.

"The person that is adopting the pet gets to learn everything about the pet from the person that knows him or her best," says Marcus.

The service is available in every city across the country, with plenty from our area to choose from.

Diesel is a 5-year-old English Bull Dog that is neutered and updated on all his vaccinations.

"He's a really big couch potato, he's a really special find. He needs someone who's going to be around and home with him, needs someone to spend time with him," Marcus says.

He's also great with other dogs, cats and kids.

Monkey is a 3-year-old Pitbull mix.

"He's very treat motivated," says Elizabeth Manko.

Sorry lady dogs - he's neutered.

"He gets along with other dogs and cats. He loves rabbits and chickens," Manko says.

He also loves to go on long runs. He's great with the younger ones and he knows how to be calm inside the house. He is just looking for a warm bed at night.

And Willow is a 7-year-old Labrador mix. She is low maintenance and super cute.
