CHICAGO (WPVI) -- A canine flu outbreak has reached epidemic proportions in Chicago.
At least five dogs have died.
More than one thousand animals are sick with canine infectious respiratory disease.
In response, Chicago has posted warning signs outside dog parks.
Several kennels and doggy day care centers have closed.
Veterinarians say there is a vaccine available, but it's not effective immediately.
Owners are being urged to keep their dogs away from other canines for now since that's how the disease spreads.
