The "No Lost Dog" program in Delaware relies on front yard signs as a new way to reunite lost pets with their owners.

WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- Delaware is testing out a new way to reunite lost pets with their owners.

The "No Lost Dog" program relies on front yard signs.

Anyone who finds a wandering pup should immediately turn it over to animal control.

With permission they'll place a large poster outside your home with a description of the dog for five days.

The idea is to grab the attention of anyone who may be driving around looking for their lost pet.

"The first night that we did this, I picked up a dog, I put the sign in the front yard. The people who were out looking for their dog - they saw it, and the dog was returned within two hours," said Officer Jason Paloni, Delaware Animal Care and Control.

The program was brought to Delaware after a similar policy had success in Arizona.
