EAST NORRITON, Pa. (WPVI) -- Kitty Cottage is a no-kill cat shelter in East Norriton, Pennsylvania.

Lynn Staples is the Volunteer Coordinator at Kitty Cottage.

She says, "The mission really is to find forever homes for our animals."

And that's what Kitty Cottage has been doing for the last 13 years.

"We are a cage free no kill cat shelter. And in the 13 years we have been in existence we have adopted out over 2700 cats," said Staples.

Socializing the kitties in their care is a key part of their success.

Shelter Manager, Brandi Greene of Kitty Cottage says, "We started paws for reading. It's great to get them around children and they like that rhythmic tone of the reading and the rhyming and stuff like that. They really enjoy that, you'll find them walking around the kids if they're sitting on the floor."

And it is a win-win, making the cats more people-friendly and the kids more confident about their reading skills.

Children can come in Wednesday through Sunday to read to the cats.

"There's no pressure when they sit and read to the animals. I found when my daughter would come in and read she wasn't tripping over words and sit there. The cats are purring, they're on your lap," said Greene.

And hoping someone will give them a permanent home.

If you would like to adopt any of the cats from the video, you can go to the Kitty Cottage website.
