For Pat and Robert Burnett, it was love at first sight when they saw Danny.

"We just found him on a website, and it just like clicked," said Robert.

With the kids grown, Danny has become their baby.

Pat and Robert adopted Danny in July 2015.

"We love him to pieces," said Pat.

"He's a great companion," added Robert.

Pat agreed, "We're never alone when he's around."

And while this Chihuahua Mix may be small in size, he is big on personality.

"He's fearless. He don't care about how big a dog is or a person is," said Pat.

Danny was adopted from the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society or PAWS. It is the city's largest no-kill shelter.

Melissa Levy is the Executive Director, PAWS

She said, "We have two adoption centers, one in Old City and one in the Northeast. And we rescue animals who are in danger of being killed at the city shelters."

PAWS also has 2 low cost veterinary clinics to help pet owners who can't afford to care for their pets otherwise.

"And ultimately, we're working to make Philadelphia a no kill city," said Melissa.

Cheeto is among the pups PAWS is working to place in a loving home. The 4 to 6-year-old Chihuahua Mix was found as a stray.

Melissa says, "He's playful and affectionate. He's lost that puppy crazy energy and is just kinda a just a playful sweet happy dog."

Two-year-old Rocket was also found wandering the streets.

"As you can see, he really just wants somebody he can snuggle up with and be a lap cat," said Melissa.

Morris is an older cat in need of a generous soul willing to invest in some dental work.

"It's a surgery that's relatively routine, but once it's done it's gonna give him the relief he'll need. and then he should be good to go. And hopefully live a long healthy life after that," said Melissa.

And finally, meet Pappy, who is happy just about all the time. He is a 6-10-year-old terrier mix. He was a stray and is looking for a new home, where he can run around, and be happy.
