FERN ROCK (WPVI) -- Two men are in custody in connection with a shootout that also damaged a Philadelphia home.

The exchange of gunfire happened on the 5700 block of North Camac Street in the Fern Rock section just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Arriving officers found a 29-year-old man lying on the front steps of the door of his house. He was taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds but is expected to survive. He was able to give police a description of the man who shot him.

That man is believed to have shown up at Temple University Hospital moments later with at least one gunshot wound in his back.

Both men, considered suspects by police, were placed into custody while in separate hospitals.

"Turns out that that shooting victim who is at Temple Hospital fits the description of an Asian male with long hair driving a dark colored vehicle. So at this time that shooting victim is being held as a suspect as well as the shooting victim from Camac Street, We're going to hold that individual as a suspect because we believe that they shot each other," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Police believe the shooting could have been drug related. Officers found 18 spent shell casings on the scene from two different caliber guns, as well as a vial of what's believed to be marijuana.

Police are also investigating how a bullet managed to travel nearly an entire city block, then strike a house where a woman was inside. She was not physically hurt.

There are private surveillance cameras nearby that police are hoping can help in this investigation. Detectives are also going door to door for more information.
