Police: Teen sexually assaulted inside Frankford home
FRANKFORD (WPVI) -- A man pretending to be a Verizon worker sexually assaulted a teenager in the Frankford section of Philadelphia.
It happened around 11:45 a.m. Monday on the 4900 block of Mulberry Street.
Police said a man knocked on the door of a house and an 18-year-old woman answered.
The man stated he was from Verizon. Police said the teen told the man her mother was not home.
The man then entered the home, exposed himself, and began to assault the victim, police said.
During the assault, police say the victim grabbed a sword that belongs to a family member and threatened her attacker. Police said before fleeing, he stated that he would return when her mother was home.
Surveillance video shows the man fleeing. While it doesn't show much detail, it does show the man leans forward when he walks, which could be key.
The suspect told the victim his name was both Taleel and Kareem.
Captain Mark Burgmann of the Special Victims is asking for the public's help, and also advising caution.
"Make sure you keep your doors locked, don't open door for strangers. If somebody is representing themselves as being from cable company or anywhere else, make a phone call and check. If you are not sure, call police," said Burgmann.
The suspect is described as a black man, 25-years-old, 6' tall, brown complexion, with a tattoo on the left side of face of an unknown symbol, and short hair. He was wearing a navy blue windbreaker, light blue under shirt, and denim jeans.
