LOGAN (WPVI) -- Two people have been shot and wounded in an attempted robbery in the Logan section of Philadelphia.

The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. at the intersection of North 11th Street and West Olney Avenue.

Police say six people had been hanging out on steps when a man with a gun approached and announced the robbery. The gunman opened fire, hitting a 37-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man in their backs.

He didn't steal anything but instead fled north on 12th to Grange Street, where he came across a man in his 30s on a BMX bike, possibly with orange rims.

"Then he stole that bike, point of gun, and then fled the scene on that bicycle," said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

The suspect then stole the bike and rode away on it.

"Our shooter is described as a male, about six-feet tall, stocky build. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and light-colored, possibly gray, sweatpants," said Small.

Both victims were taken to Einstein Medical Center, where they are listed in stable condition.
