CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- Pennsylvania State Police have identified the person killed during an early morning crash on the Vine Street Expressway in Center City Philadelphia.

It happened around 4:45 a.m. Sunday on eastbound I-676 just east of Broad Street.

Arriving state troopers found a 2004 Saab blocking the left lane of travel with front end damage.

Another vehicle, a 2004 Chevy Tahoe, was found sideways blocking the right lane of travel with rear damage.

Troopers found a pedestrian lying on the highway.

The pedestrian, identified as Phillip West, was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital with extremely serious injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The driver of the Saab, identified as 24-year-old Christopher Boyd Nevatt of Warminster, Bucks County, Nevatt was transported to Hahnemann with serious injuries.

The passenger of the Tahoe, identified as 29-year-old Shamika Trice of Philadelphia, was also transported to Hahnemann for treatment of moderate injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.

The crash resulted in the closure of that portion of I-676.

The roadway was reopened to traffic around 8 a.m.
