Authorities have released more information on a police-involved shooting.

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia Internal Affairs investigators are providing new details about a police-involved shooting of an armed suspect on Friday.

They have identified the officer as Michael Haas, a 7-year veteran of the force.

He is now on desk duty pending the outcome of the probe.

It happened around 7:00 p.m. at 8th Street and Fairmount Avenue.

According to police, Haas saw 35-year-old Robert Judy with a handgun in his waistband.

Haas ordered Judy to show his hands and the suspect refused.

That's when Haas says Judy began to pull the gun from his waistband.

Haas opened fire, hitting Judy once in the chest.

Judy is in critical, but stable condition. He is now charged with aggravated assault and weapons charges.
