PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police report a woman was struck and killed by a SEPTA bus near the Frankford Transportation Center Monday afternoon.

It was right around 2 p.m. when the Route 5 Septa Bus was traveling westbound on Pratt Street across Frankford Avenue. Somehow the bus struck and killed the woman. Paramedics responded and pronounced her dead at the scene.

"I know her family is going to be sad. To hear their family member is gone," said Elise Reynolds of Northeast Philadelphia. "That's really sad that something like this happened up here."

Commuters looked on as investigators began their work at Frankford and Pratt this afternoon.

They were horrified and saddened to see a body in the street, the body of a 65-year-old woman who was hit and killed by a Septa bus.

"That's still somebody else's relative and that's just crazy. I am wondering how that happened," said Tramaine Cooper of Oxford Circle. "I have no idea how that bus driver didn't see that person."

Frankford Transportation Center is a very busy transportation hub and a fatal accident like this left commuters feeling worried about their own safety as they make their way around the city.

"It's just scary. You know sometimes you think you just try to you know to make it across the street and it's dangerous," said Brittany Linsk of Northeast Philadelphia.

Police are investigating the incident.
