100 days, counting until DNC comes to Philadelphia

CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- An official countdown clock outside the National Constitution Center unveiled Saturday 100 days and counting until the Democratic National Convention.

Music, activities and food trucks took over Arch Street, all to get people excited about the political event at the Wells Fargo Center this July.

"This is a wonderful start and it's great for the city," said Skip Waterbury of West Deptford Township, New Jersey.

"I want to learn about what's going on and I want to get excited, and I think the city is in a really good place for it," said Amy Kleger of Queen Village.

Inside the Constitution Center, convention officials gave an update on preparations.

"We will have built a city within a city and we will be ready to receive 50,000 guests and 1 million viewers worldwide who will tune in to our convention," said the Rev. Leah Daughtry, DNC CEO.

After Thursday's heated debate between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, former Pennsylvania Governor and Democratic National Convention Chair Ed Rendell called for the candidates to tone it down a little.

"We want to conduct the rest of this campaign in a way that doesn't hurt the chances of our eventual nominee winning in the fall," said Rendell.

A call was put out for more volunteers, even with more than 9,000 already signed up. Officials also assured local businesses their bottom line will see a boost come July.

"We are working with the business community through the DNC Host Committee working with our restaurants and hotels," said Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney. "It's going to be a good time, they're going to make some money and people are going to work."
