They wore T-shirts with the words "Stand for Love" on the front, and that's exactly what the people of Cleveland did Sunday.

Hundreds of them gathered on the Hope Memorial Bridge - a one-mile span that links the east and west sides of this city in the name of peace, unity and love.

"Just to show our love for Cleveland and all over the world," said Matt Weiksner of Cleveland. "So we're here together as a family to support peace and love."

"Peace and love should rule out all the hate," said Anjelica Pozo of Cleveland, adding it warmed her heart to see the turnout.

Police officers on bicycles received applause as they crossed the bridge. Then the large crowd stood hand in hand in silence.

"Of course we've heard about potential things happening here in Cleveland," said Joy Roller, march organizer. "It's so important that we we're strong for love, that we're standing and saying, 'We will stand up to the fear and hatred that creates violence in our country, our world and in our city.' "

Elsewhere, the delegates, including those from Pennsylvania and New Jersey, arrived in Cleveland Sunday. They tell us they're excited to get their convention started and nominate Donald Trump for president.

"It's a tremendous amount of energy. There's a lot of excitement. I haven't seen a candidate for president, and this is my 7th convention, since Ronald Reagan, that has created so much excitement among Republicans. You can just feel what is happening here," said Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Rob Gleason.

"I'm very excited to be here. I think it's a wonderful event for Donald Trump and Mr. Pence. I think this is an exciting time for our country, actually, for us to come together as a Republican Party," said William Fey of Franklin Township, New Jersey.
