Philadelphia Councilman Jim Kenney to resign; mayoral candidacy expected

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia City Councilman Jim Kenney has announced he will be resigning this week.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Kenney's office said he will attend his final council session on Thursday, then will submit his resignation.

Action News has learned that Kenney will be running for mayor.

An official announcement of his candidacy is expected soon.

Kenney joins a democratic field that already includes Lynne Abraham, Anthony Williams, and Nelson Diaz.
