NJ delegation votes during historic DNC roll call

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Action News was with the New Jersey delegation as the delegates cast their votes during the nomination roll call at the Democratic National Convention.

New Jersey Democratic Party Chairman John Currie announced 90 votes for Hillary Clinton and 45 votes for Bernie Sanders.

A short time later, Clinton became the first woman to be nominated for president by a major U.S. political party.

"This is the front lines of American history," U.S. Senator Cory Booker. "This is a chance to see history being made. There are little girls back in New Jersey who, after tonight, will know that there is a no job in this entire country that they cannot do, that there's no limit to their dreams."

"My 3-year-old granddaughter will grow up knowing what it is to be a woman and to be president and not think that there's anything unusual about it," said N.J. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman.

"Back in '08 I never thought I would live to see an African-American elected president," said Currie. "But to be present at both nominations - for the first African-American president and the first woman president is a great honor. It's very humbling to me." null
