Voters react to Trump's vulgar remarks caught on tape

DILWORTH PARK (WPVI) -- Local voters had sharp and vocal reactions to Donald Trump's shocking and vulgar comments caught on a hot microphone back in 2005, where he bragged that his fame allowed him to grope and kiss women.

"I think we all knew he's an animal and he's a misogynistic pig, and I don't think this was a secret," said Matt Miller of South Philadelphia.

"To me that just says he's OK with violating a woman, raping a woman, sexually assaulting a woman," said Janelle Shaw from Washington, D.C.

"The comment that he made about the women and the things that he would do to a woman, it just shows that he's not a good person. His character is off," said Breon Engram of Southwest Philadelphia.

Trump's comments have caused an uproar in the Republican Party. Some are calling for him to drop out, others are distancing themselves from him or withdrawing their support altogether.

Running mate Gov. Mike Pence released a statement Saturday that reads in part:

"...I was offended by the words and actions ... I do not condone his remarks and cannot defend them."

"I'm a mom and an American first, and I cannot and will not support a candidate for President who brags about degrading and assaulting women," New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte said in a tweet.

At Trump headquarters on South Street, campaign workers declined to comment, but others we talked with think too much is being made of Trump's crude remarks.

"Are they kind of offensive? Of course. But we have all been there, we've all done stuff like that," said Joe Mangin from Silver Springs, Maryland.

"I'm an ex-jock, been in the Navy. Guys are idiots and they talk like idiots. And this guy made comments in the privacy of a bus," said Tom of Bala Cynwyd.

Trump says he has no intention of leaving the race over this.

"It's definitely appalling, but then again it's Donald Trump, a lot of things that come out of his mouth is kind of, now it's kind of like I expected that," said Kadeen Shaw from Washington, D.C.

Trump's controversial comments will surely be a topic in Sunday night's debate, which becomes even more important as he struggles to recover from this disastrous turn for his campaign.
