Powerball jackpot jumps to $610M for Wednesday's drawing after no winners Monday

The Powerball jackpot has surged to $610 million - the game's seventh largest payout ever - after no one claimed the top prize in Monday night's drawing.

The next drawing is Wednesday, Jan. 5. The jackpot has a cash value of $434.2 million if the winner declines the annual payment option.

"We're thrilled to offer players a jackpot that has hit the $600 million mark," said May Scheve Reardon, Powerball product group chair and Missouri Lottery executive director. "Although no one hit the jackpot, we had more than 1.8 million tickets win a cash prize in last night's drawing. Players should check their tickets for one of the nine ways to win."

There were at least three tickets in Monday's drawing that fetched prizes of $1 million or more. Those included two Match 5 tickets worth $1 million each sold in Connecticut and Texas. There was also a Match 5 + Power Play ticket worth $2 million sold in Montana.

There have now been 39 drawings in a row without a jackpot winner.

The biggest all-time lottery jackpot was a $1.5863 billion Powerball prize in 2016.

The last winning jackpot was hit on Oct. 4 with a prize of nearly $700 million.

A single ticket sold in California matched all six numbers. The jackpot at the time rose to $699.8 million, making it the seventh-largest for all lottery games in U.S. history.

Powerball tickets, which cost $2 each, are sold in 45 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
