NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- A Michigan man is behind bars in Delaware, charged with raping a 15-year-old girl he met on social media.
William Burrows, 39, of Benton Harbor, Michigan, is charged with rape, unlawful sexual contact and other offenses.
Delaware State Police say Burrows befriended the victim online in November 2014 and was in constant contact with her until the two met in person earlier this month.
Investigators say Burrows sexually assaulted the girl last Tuesday at the Motel 6 at 100 McIntosh Plaza in Newark, Del.
Police say after the incident, the girl's mother told him to stop contacting her daughter, and on Saturday two family members confronted Burrows outside the Motel 6 and delivered the same message.
Burrows allegedly threatened the family members with a box cutter.
State troopers caught up with Burrows Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Harmony Plaza Shopping Center near Newark and arrested him.
He is now behind bars in lieu of $93,000 bail.
