BETHLEHEM, Pa. (WPVI) -- Run-D.M.C. has been named as one of the headliners of this summer's Musikfest in Bethlehem, Pa.
The Hall of Fame hip-hop group will perform August 6 at the music festival, officials announced Wednesday.
Though Run-D.M.C wasn't among the first rap acts, they were the first to achieve widespread mainstream success, and the first to notch a platinum album with 1986's "Raising Hell." The rapping duo of Joseph "Run" Simmons and Darryl "DMC" McDaniels - plus their DJ, the late Jam Master Jay - were rap's first rock stars.
They had hits with songs like "My Adidas" and "It's Tricky," but had their greatest success when they remade Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" with the rock act for a groundbreaking collaboration.
Run-D.M.C. is joining an already announced lineup that includes X Ambassadors, Aretha Franklin, Boston, Don Henley, and Lady Antebellum.
Musikfest will be held August 5 to 14.
The schedule so far:
Aug. 5: X Ambassadors
Aug. 6: Run-D.M.C.
Aug. 8: Aretha Franklin
Aug. 9: Boston
Aug. 10: Don Henley
Aug. 13: Lady Antebellum
Tickets will be available at Musikfest.org/tickets/
