Donor drops $25,000 cashier's check in Salvation Army Red Kettle

GALVESTON, TX -- The Salvation Army is always grateful for whatever you can give -- whether it's 25 cents, $25 or $250. But whoever dropped a cashier's check worth a whopping $25,000 has the non-profit organization extra thankful this holiday season.

An anonymous donor made the contribution Friday at its Red Kettle site outside the Walgreens off Stewart Road and 61 Street in Galveston.

"I am most grateful for this wonderful gift," said Captain Mark Jacobs, regional coordinator for The Salvation Army in Galveston County. "This money stays in Galveston County and helps our friends facing hardship, crisis, and transition. Others with such capacity are encouraged to consider a similar gift , or match donations given by others to assist county residents in need."

The Salvation Army is aiming to raise $175,800 in Galveston County during this year's Christmas season. So far, it received just over $79,000.

Last year, the group raised $167,431 in donations to the iconic red kettles.

Salvation Army red kettles and bell-ringers are located at Kroger's, Walmart, Palais Royal, Walgreens, Hobby Lobby, Arlan's, Zieglers, and JCPenney.
