Samsung update will stop Galaxy Note 7 from charging

Samsung will release an update that will make the Galaxy Note 7 unusable.

Samsung recalled the smartphone in October because the batteries can catch on fire.

More than 90 percent of all Note 7s in the U.S. have been returned and exchanged.

But the company wants all phones out of service.

Samsung will release a software update on Dec. 19 that will block the Note 7 from charging.
